AMVAC Helps Prepare You For Mosquito Season
The 2013 mosquito season is approaching, and PMPs will receive calls from homeowners wanting to control these pesky — and sometimes deadly — insects. It’s no wonder homeowners are concerned; in 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the highest number of West Nile virus cases since 2003.
Most of the mosquitoes in North America breed close to the home, often in clogged gutters, potted plant watering saucers, pet water bowls, fish ponds or trash and other containers.
PMPs who offer Integrated Mosquito Management programs provide a valuable service to homeowners, while growing their business’s bottom line, AMVAC Chemical Corporation reports. AMVAC offers a range of solutions for the PMP, including:
- Summit B.T.I. Briquets, ideal for spots around the home or business. Bacteria kill the larval stages of mosquitos before they become adults.
- Wisdom TC Flowable, a barrier spray that can be used for yard perimeters or around the home’s foundation shrubbery to control resting adult mosquitos.
- NUVAN Prostrips, which provide a slow vapor release for continuous and long-lasting control against flying and crawling insects, the firm reports. They are effective in difficult-to-reach areas such as storage areas, cupboards, closets, garages and more.

FEMO Products Expand Access to Yard Armour Mosquito Control Systems
FEMO Products, a manufacturer of mosquito control systems, announced it is expanding sales of Yard Armour systems and products to outdoor lifestyle businesses.
“Due to increased fear of West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne diseases, we see an overwhelming interest in mosquito control from consumers and businesses,” said Barney F. Rinaldi, president, FEMO Products. “By selling Yard Armour to existing outdoor service businesses, we are making it easier and more accessible for families and businesses to eliminate mosquitoes.”
The Yard Armour control system features a remote control with a range of 500 feet, a multiple event analog timer, adjustable event durations, a 55-gallon synthetic drum with locking lid, a weatherproof control box and a heavy-duty brass pump and intake filter. Registered and labeled misting concentrate is available to licensed pest control applicators in states where approved for use. A 25(b)-exempt concentrate made from essential oils is available as well, the firm reports.
“Yard Armour is the cost-effective choice for mosquito control systems on the market,” Rinaldi said. “Our quality products are assembled in Dallas, Texas, and perform with unmatched reliability.”

MGK’s Hyperion Receives EPA Registration
MGK has announced it has received EPA registration for its new Hyperion Advanced Mist Concentrate, which delivers kill and proven residual activity against mosquito populations, the company reports.
Hyperion is the next generation of mosquito control technology for residential misting application, MGK said. Engineered for use in misting systems, Hyperion utilizes a proprietary MGK formulation that allows stable dilution in water and is effective at low mix rates, according to MGK.
Hyperion uses the active ingredient sumithrin, which has been widely used to combat mosquito virus outbreaks following Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, as well as the West Nile outbreak in 2012.
“Hyperion is a truly exciting product that is based on an active ingredient that is new to the mosquito misting market, so it expands our mosquito portfolio dramatically,” said Monika Morris, market manager for branded products, MGK. “Having the next generation of misting technology that is proven to deliver residual activity for up to three days adds to every mosquito control professional’s arsenal of mosquito control solutions.”
Hyperion can be applied outdoors with backpack sprayers, blowers and handheld sprayers; in and around horse barns; and outdoors in residential misting sytems, MGK reports. Hyperion is developed to be effective against mosquitoes, stable flies, fire brats, ants, flying moths and other nuisance insects.
State registrations are pending, and Hyperion is expected to fully launch in June 2013.

MistAway Introduces iMistAway
MistAway Systems has announced iMistAway, a technology that wirelessly connects its misting control units to the Internet. iMistAway will allow MistAway dealers to monitor their customers’ misting systems through a Web browser or smartphone, enabling activities like audit-ing the volume of insecticide remaining in the unit and checking for error conditions like a cut line or tripped GFI — without the cost of a service trip.
The product includes an app that MistAway dealers can install on the customer’s smartphone. The app can be customized with the dealer’s name and logo and will allow the customer to see their system’s status. The app also will enable the customer to contact their MistAway dealer.
With iMistAway, MistAway dealers will be able to reduce operating costs while providing a superior level of service to their customers, the company said. iMistAway may be retrofitted to all MistAway systems sold since 2007. Rollout begins in May and is available exclusively to MistAway dealers.

Syngenta Offers Demand CS
To control mosquitoes, PMPs can trust Demand CS insecticide from Syngenta, the company said. Demand CS can be applied where mosquitoes are likely to rest, such as around buildings, walls, plants, under decks and in dark, humid areas. The product can be used as spot or crack-and-crevice applications or as a perimeter exterior banded application, Syngenta reports.
Demand CS uses the power of iCAP technology to protect the active ingredient, lambda-cyhalothrin, with a dual-walled microencapsulation that features a controlled release to provide both immediate and residual control. Upon application, Demand CS delivers more than 10,000 microcaps of insecticide per treated square inch, Syngenta reports. When mosquitos cross the treated surface, the microcaps attach to the pests’ cuticles, where the active ingredient is released or spread to other mosquitoes through contact.

Zoëcon Professional Products Offering Variety of Mosquito Control Products
Central Life Sciences advises pest control professionals to prepare for an increased demand for mosquito control following the West Nile virus outbreak of 2012.
“West Nile virus may have fallen off the public’s radar a bit in recent years, but there was definitely a lot of awareness generated around the disease following last year’s outbreak,” said Dean Gaiser, regional sales manager for Central Life Sciences. “I think we’ll see more vigilance this year as people keep a closer watch.”
Gaiser said the outbreak of 2012 has pest control professionals and public health officials evaluating mosquito prevention and response strategies for 2013. The Zoëcon Professional Products division of Central Life Sciences offers a complete lineup of products to help pest management professionals control mosquitoes, including:
- Altosid Pro-G Insect Growth Regulator and Altosid 30-Day Briquets, two easy-to-use larvicide formulations that provide residual control in standing water, the firm says.
- Mavrik Perimeter, an odorless, broad-spectrum pyrethroid offering immediate knockdown of mosquitos for use on foliage, around outside surfaces and around buildings.
- Zenivex E4 RTU, an effective, reduced-risk mosquito adulticide in a ready-to-use formulation for hand, ground and aerial applications.
