Central Life Sciences
Zoëcon Professional Products contributes to PCOs’ "green" initiatives by providing insect growth regulators (IGRs) that offer reliable efficacy and low environmental impact, the firm reports. As a part of Central Life Sciences, whose founders were the first to develop and produce IGR technology, the Zoëcon IGR products use an insect’s chemistry, rather than direct toxicity, as a means to reduce populations. (S)-Methoprene and (S)-Hydroprene, the active ingredients in Precor and Gentrol IGRs, are molecules that interrupt the insect life cycle by preventing larvae from developing into breeding adults. Zoëcon products are an integral part of controlling insect pests such as bed bugs, cockroaches, fleas, fire ants, stored product pests, fruit flies and drain flies. Zoëcon IGRs are an ideal fit for a green strategy, the manufacturer says.

Dow AgroSciences
The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System from Dow AgroSciences has impressive environmental credentials, the company says.
The premier bait used in the Sentricon System was the first termite treatment active ingredient accepted for registration by the U.S. EPA under the strict requirements of the Reduced Risk Pesticide Initiative. This distinction was based on its low impact on human health, low toxicity to non-target organisms (birds, fish and plants) and low potential for groundwater contamination when compared with other commercially available treatments, Dow AgroSciences reports.
The Sentricon System has earned the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award. This award is one of the federal government’s top environmental honors and recognizes technical innovation that incorporates environmentally responsible chemistry into its design, manufacture and use.
Dow AgroSciences provides an advanced solution to protecting new and existing construction from termite damage, which can earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points toward the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) green certification program. The Sentricon System protects property from termite damage by eliminating colonies. It’s been approved for one-half a LEED point toward the USGBC LEED certification in both residential and commercial construction.

DuPont Professional Products
DuPont Altriset, the first soil-applied liquid termiticide launched in almost a decade, is in a class of chemistry with a mode of action like no other termite control product, DuPont Professional Products says. Laboratory and field study results prove Altriset halts termite feeding within hours while providing termite elimination for critical long-term structural protection. In addition to requiring no signal word on the label, DuPont Altriset is the first and only liquid termiticide to be classified as reduced-risk under the U.S. EPA reduced risk program, the firm reports.
Laboratory tests have shown that Altriset is highly effective against termites, and halts feeding in hours, the manufacturer says. As termites tunnel through the treated zone, they quickly acquire a lethal dose of Altriset and stop feeding. However, these termites will continue to crawl, groom and clean for extended periods after exposure. Once affected by Altriset, termites will begin to exhibit increased aggregation, enhanced grooming and contact with other colony members for hours. Affected termites will become more lethargic and show signs of muscle paralysis; decreased coordination and mortality will ultimately occur within several days. The delayed mortality and increased colony interaction are key reasons why Altriset is so effective, DuPont reports.

Trece
CIDETRAK IMM is a simple, high-performance dispenser for Indian meal moth mating disruption and control. This is the only pheromone-based formulation designed from the molecular level up for use in food environments, Trece says. CIDETRAK IMM dispenser technology provides a three-way effect on insect mating — false trail following, trail masking and antennal overload. Less mating reduces or eliminates larvae and damage to stored goods.
CIDETRAK IMM works with a reduced insecticide program, depending on insect abundance, to provide a continuous preventive strategy. This reduction in plant shutdowns for insect control equates to reduced worker and consumer concerns, less business interruption, labor cost savings and less insecticide residue. The result is long-lasting protection and peace of mind 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Trece reports.

FMC Professional Solutions
Topia insecticide, from FMC Professional Solutions, is a new, completely natural pest control product for use by pest management professionals to control bed bugs, cockroaches, ants, flies and more than a dozen other pests.
Topia features a proprietary blend of natural oils with well-documented insecticidal properties, the manufacturer reports. A water-based product that delivers contact control of many structural pests, Topia was introduced in early 2010 as a 17-ounce aerosol product. The product is a patent-pending blend of plant-derived oils, including geraniol, which is known to have strong insecticidal qualities, FMC says.
A 25(b) Exempt Product, Topia belongs to a special class of pesticides considered by the EPA to be "Minimum Risk." These products are not subject to federal registration requirements because their ingredients, both active and inert, are demonstrably safe for the intended use, FMC says.
Topia can be applied virtually anywhere, including food-handling and preparation areas, schools, supermarkets, restaurants and residences. It can also be applied in buildings wishing to comply with green environmental initiatives.

Prentiss Incorporated
Prentiss Incorporated, founded in 1919, has been a leader in the formulation of innovative and quality pest control products focusing on botanical pesticides. In the 1950s, Prentiss began to focus on the formulation of synthetic pesticides. Prentiss established a leadership position providing these products to a variety of pest control markets, including structural pest control.
After many popular organophosphates were withdrawn from the market, Prentiss partnered with EcoSMART Technologies, a producer of patented botanical pesticides, and eventually purchased the Professional and Commercial Division in March 2009.
Prentiss’ long history in botanicals, coupled with EcoSMART’s impressive technology, created a synergistic partnership, the company says. Prentiss’ complete line of interior and exterior products is extremely effective against a broad spectrum of insect pests and provides both quick knockdown and control, the firm reports.
Unlike botanicals in the past, several of Prentiss’ products also provide residual protection comparable to conventional pesticides, which is a benefit to pest management professionals, Prentiss says. Proven efficacy, superior performance, broad-spectrum activity, lowest environmental and mammalian toxicity, and competitive pricing characterize Prentiss’ botanical products, the firm reports.

T·A·P Pest Control Insulation
T·A·P is a natural fiber insulation treated with boric acid and other proprietary formulations to produce fire-retardant, environmentally friendly, thermally superior, sound-deadening insulation with pest controlling properties, the firm reports. T·A·P is acceptable for use around humans and pets, but deadly to cockroaches, silverfish, ants, termites and many other crawling insects. T·A·P is a U.S. EPA-labeled pesticide.
T·A·P is the result of a merger of two well-respected technologies — natural cellulose insulation and natural borate pesticides — creating Thermal, Acoustical and Pest Control Insulation, the only stabilized pest control insulation. As part of a total pest management package, T·A·P can be used to cap existing insulation in attics, or can be installed in the attics, walls and crawlspaces of new construction.
T·A·P pays for itself quickly in reduced energy costs and then continues to save PMPs’ customers money for the life of the structure, the firm reports.
