FMC Professional Solutions
FMC’s granular surface-feeding pest control product, Talstar EZ Granular Insecticide, will be available by the end of 2010 with Verge granular technology, developed by Oil-Dri Corporation of America. Talstar EZ with Verge is designed to yield a more uniform distribution of the granules during application, among other benefits. A unique, clay-based granule, Verge breaks down quickly to release the active ingredient and disappear into the landscape, FMC says. Furthermore, the company says, the new formulation is better for the applicator since it reduces exposure during application. FMC’s Talstar EZ is designed to provide long-lasting control of problematic surface-feeding pests such as ants, chinch bugs, fleas, and ticks. According to FMC, the rapidly disintegrating Verge granules fall apart into thousands of micro-particles in less than a minute after being watered-in.
Talstar EZ with Verge is labeled for use on lawns, in landscapes and in perimeters around residential, institutional, public, commercial and industrial buildings, parks, recreational areas and athletic fields. It can be used as a perimeter, broadcast or mound treatment. The product will be sold in a 25-lb. bag.

BASF Pest Control Solutions
BASF Pest Control Solutions has introduced Prescription Treatment brand Alpine Ant and Alpine Cockroach Gel Baits, as low-toxicity alternatives designed to solve ant and roach problems. Both baits feature the Reduced Risk active ingredient dinotefuran and bait matrices that are free of the Big Eight allergens, BASF reports. Dinotefuran, the non-repellent active ingredient in Alpine insecticides, has been granted Reduced Risk status for public health use by EPA. Alpine Ant Gel Bait is designed to work well alongside Termidor termiticide/insecticide and Phantom termiticide/insecticide. The bait also features low toxicity with low percent active ingredient and a gel formulation that stays moist, the company says. It can be used outdoors and indoors including food handling areas. Additionally the company says its Alpine Cockroach Gel Bait works well alongside Phantom, starts killing roaches within hours, and can be used in food handling areas. The product is designed to be attractive to bait-averse cockroaches and is available in reservoir or piston can.
