BRANFORD, Conn. — Ancera, a food defense company, launched Precision Downtime, a new software solution that helps poultry integrators optimize flock transitions with real-time, farm-specific data.
The software is already in use at a small bird complex, reducing average downtimes between flocks by one day and on track to net millions in additional liveweight and improvements in animal health and performance, said Ancera.
Traditionally, integrators have relied on fixed downtime schedules, applying the same number of days for cleanout and treatments across all farms regardless of their microbial conditions, said Ancera. This "one-size-fits-all" approach almost certainly guarantees lost revenue, the company said, as some farms sit idle longer than necessary, while others restart too soon, leading to increased microbial risk, higher mortality and poor feed conversion.
The costs add up fast, according to Ancera:
- $1,500 lost per farm per unnecessary downtime day
- Increased mortality and suboptimal feed conversion
- Lost production time and reduced pounds to the plant
Precision Downtime delivers data-driven downtime recommendations based on microbial risk assessments. The platform collects real-time data from poultry houses, analyzes microbial conditions and prescribes the optimal number of downtime days.
“Precision Downtime gives integrators the intelligence they need to make smarter, profit-driven downtime decisions,” said Arjun Ganesan, CEO of Ancera. "Every unnecessary day of downtime is a lost opportunity. This solution puts millions of dollars back into poultry operations while maintaining bird health and food safety. This is a must-have for small bird operations.”
